“Thank you leaders for listening, laughing, and being so fun.”
“I had so, so, so much fun at camp.”
-Feedback from 2018 campers
Seventeen campers learned new independence skills while making friends and having a blast at Empowerment Camp 2018! Caring and encouraging counselors and nurses motivated campers to take part in a weekend filled with activities, including zip-lining, archery, crafts, candle chats, tie-dyeing t-shirts, talent shows, campfires, and general shenanigans! We even snuck in a little education, and talked with campers with spina bifida about skills they can be working on now to be more independent as an adult, while their siblings had time to talk about shared experiences of growing up with a brother or sister with SB. Overwhelmingly, the campers reported their favorite part of camp is hanging out with the counselors and other kids with spina bifida and their siblings.
A big shout out to the Camp Joy staff who did a great job of engaging our campers, keeping them cool and hydrated in the heat, and helping them get to all of the fun activities around camp.
Check out the video that Camp Joy staff created highlighting all of their activities, as well as the photo album on the SBCC Facebook page.
