THANK YOU, MAGGIE!
Last week, Maggie Neumann from Maggie’s Marvelous Mini Cheesecakes invited Rhonda and Diane over to present us with the proceeds from her charitable giving initiative. Maggie donates 20% of the proceeds from the sale of her delicious mini cheesecakes, as well as any tips she receives, to non-profits in Greater Cincinnati. The Spina Bifida Coalition, Inc. was delighted to be designated as the charity of choice for the months of October, November, and December of 2022 – obviously high-volume production time for Maggie and her crew. SBC certainly benefitted from her hard work. Maggie presented SBC with a donation for over $4,000, her largest donation to date!! If you haven’t tried her cheesecakes yet, she has two amazing seasonal flavors added to her regular selections, brownie bottom chocolate chip cookie dough and maple pecan. She is also offering special Bengals cheesecakes to celebrate the team’s success in the playoffs.

LET’S TALK ABOUT IEPs
Learn, Lunch & Laugh is a new program designed to educate parents and caregivers about a topic related to spina bifida while their children are supervised nearby, enjoying fun activities together. Our first Learn, Lunch & Laugh in Greater Cincinnati takes us to the Newport Aquarium in Northern Kentucky on Sunday, March 5th at 1:00 PM. At this session, Terri Doerr, Special Needs Parent Mentor at Lakota Local Schools will be joined by Becky Kremer, Special Needs Parent Mentor at Hamilton City Schools, to discuss how to maximize your child’s education and inclusion in the classroom. Their discussion will be generalized to include both grade school and high school students at any public school.
The program begins with a lunch of pizza and lemonade in the Reef Room at the Newport Aquarium. After lunch, children will explore the rest of the aquarium with volunteers from the UC School of Social Work and the UC University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities LEND Program while parents remain in the Reef Room for the presentation. Our goal is to provide one volunteer to accompany each child with spina bifida in the aquarium. Registered siblings will be attended by the same volunteer, unless otherwise requested. Please contact Diane if you have questions or concerns regarding the volunteers.
Don’t wait to register. This presentation is limited to 30 participants (including the children) due to the size of the Reef Room at the Aquarium. In order to include as many families as possible, registration for the program is limited to 3 people per family.
